Skookum and Kekuli are Okanagan First Nation words meaning reliable and underground shelter.
The kekuli [ kickwillie] was built as winter lodgings and are also called quiggly holes and pit houses. This one pictured is the third known kekuli in this hollow, the second having been burnt down more than 4 years ago. With Steve Cipes and First Nations help the kekuli was rebuilt and blessed into the physical plane the 20th of November 2010.
